Birthday celebration time

How good is this in NY for my birthday!

The day started off with us going to Chinatown for Yum Cha (Dim Sum), what an excellent meal, the four of us were the only "round eyes" in the place. After we had our fill we asked for the bill and and the total of the bill including taxes was $21.80, unbelievably cheap. The plan was to then go further into Chinatown and look at a few shops, then move onto "Little Italy".

Most of the streets around Little Italy had been closed off for the Feast of San Gennaro which runs from 15 September to 25 September, so this was a fantastic time to see Little Italy with wall to wall stalls along most of the streets in Little Italy.

As we were over toward the south east side we headed over and check out the Brooklyn Bridge, so with hundred's of other locals and tourists we walked the bridge, well at least to halfway. I found it interesting that the walkway (and cycleway) are in the centre of the bridge between the 6 lanes of traffic.

From the Brooklyn Bridge, on the horizon to the right is the Status of Liberty

We then headed to the financial district for a look at the 9/11 memorial. It was extremely crowded all about the area. Some of this was brought about by a run to commemorate and remember 9/11. Unfortunately, we couldn't get to see the memorial as it is booked out for months, as well as the need to book on-line. Just a couple of minor things we overlooked.

There is a great outdoor area beside the Hudson River close by the World Trade site, so we dropped in here for a couple of drinks which turned into lunch and several more drinks. From our table we could see the Statue of Liberty across the harbour in the distance, what a great setting.

After the long lunch and a few more drinks we strolled back beside the Hudson to West Village and Ben & Anne's apartment.

My preference of restaurant for a night out was Italian. as it was the feast of San Gennaro, our chances of getting a restaurant were very slim indeed, and we gave up on that. With some research Ben located an Italian Restaurant, Trattoria Toscana, within about 10 minutes walk, which specialised in Northern Italian cuisine.
Top food selection, top wine selection, great waiters, as well as a great atmosphere. A perfect restaurant and meal to top off a great day
