Out and about in NY

A leisurely day today.

Started off after an excellent brunch at a local restaurant for a walk to the "high line". The high line was a railway line built in the 30's to lift the local railway freight line from road height to the third story level. At the time this was the largest industrial district. The line fell into disuse as more trucks took over moving freight, and has not been used since 1980. The line was going to be demolished when a group was formed to preserve the structure and turn it into an elevated walkway and parkland, as the area is now home to many residents as apartments have replaced the industrial district. Many of these apartments are in converted industrial use buildings.

We then headed to Central Park, and had a leisurely stroll thru part of the park. Taking in a few sites, Strawberry Fields the John Lennon memorial, Belvedere Castle, where the local meteorological readings are taken and a very very green Central Park lake.

That evening we headed out to find a local restaurant, being Saturday night impossible to book at a late date. We found a French restaurant where the food was excellent and it was only 10 minutes walk from the apartment. Could we fault the place, yes the bill was slow in coming, however if that is the biggest complaint then no problem at all.
